SAWA envisions Tanzanian communities that access integrated hygiene, Sanitation and Water supply services for potable and improved Livelihood.

Ensure sustainable sanitation, hygiene and water supply services through delivery of appropriate programs that are managed by the communities, their local institutions and the private sector

SAWA CAPACITY

SAWA has long experienced national experts in water and environmental sanitation and hygiene sector for rural and urban development. This capability is backed up with vast experience in use of participatory approaches for project implementation and management, school and community mobilization, capacity building for sustainability, designing and construction of water and sanitation facilities, surveys and feasibility studies, conflict resolution for institutions managing water and sanitation services as well as financial management. SAWA is able to deliver timely and quality services with value for money. SAWA uses its experience to engage at local and national level advocacy and networking.

SAWA ACTIVITIES

  1. Planning, implementation and management of community water projects and promote such initiatives in un-served communities.
  2. Support sanitation and hygiene interventions including school WASH, promoting household water treatment using appropriate technologies
  3. Community empowerment through trainings, coaching and mentoring on operation and management of sanitation, water and hygiene services using various  adult techniques and approaches
  4. Facilitate and conduct research, feasibility studies, evaluations, training activities, workshops, outreach programmes, publications and information dissemination
  5. Provide technical assistance to CSOs and other community water schemes
  6. Policy analysis, advocacy and networking in sanitation and water sector.
  7. Operating, maintaining and managing water and sanitation systems for the realization of project sustainability.
  8. Promote and create awareness on the effective use of water resources at community level

SAWA COVERAGE AREA
SAWA works in eight regions of Dar-es-Salaam, Morogoro, Dododma, Kilimanjaro, Njombe, Tanga, Mwanza and Coastal region, expecting to support projects in other areas of Tanzania in the near future. SAWA has reached more than 1.5 milion people with WASH.
